Stocking Island is made up of giant sand dunes hardened into limestone rock. One sand dune, standing over 100 feet in height, is a beacon, or monument, as most call it, used many years ago for navigational purposes. The beacon is a popular attraction for yachters docked in Elizabeth Harbour and hikers to Stocking Island. It can be clearly seen from George Town, Great Exuma. There are two paths to get to the monument, one from the harbour side and one from the Exuma Sound Hamburger Beach side. Both are sorry hikes, but steep at some points. The view at the top of Amazing!
