We were driving to Seattle and wanted to take the most Northern route because of a heat dome that was in the middle of the country, even coming into Washington.
Along the way we can across the Washington Pass and OMGosh, the beauty was unbelievable. The Washington Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5,477ft above the sea level. This pass is located within the North Cascades National Park, on State Route 20 and is also known as the North Cascades Highway. It is the northernmost route across the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington. The pass sits between Diablo and Winthrop.
This road features a high risk of avalanches. It’s said to be among the top areas in the country for most avalanche paths per mile of highway. Avalanche hazard usually closes the highway sometime in late November and it usually re-opens sometime between April to early May.
