My boyfriend Mike LOVES tortilla chips. He can eat them every day. I recently learned how to make tortillas so I tried baking them in small triangles, like tortilla chips and they came out perfect. He loved them and there's not as much salt as store bought chips. I am so happy that I can make him an easy, inexpensive snack.
It's so easy, let me know if you try them!
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup water
3 tablespoons olive oil (shortening works as well)
Directions
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Stir in water and oil. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10-12 times, adding a little flour or water if needed to achieve a smooth dough. Let rest for 10 minutes.
Divide dough into 8 portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a 7-in. circle. The circle will not be perfect.
Coat each lightly with olive oil.
Cut each into triangles. Sprinkle salt on each triangle if desired.
Bake until golden brown then flip each one on the other side to brown.
