We took our friends to Starfish Beach, Stocking Island, Bahamas. What a beautiful experience. We saw so many starfish.
I was told that it is important when removing a starfish from the ocean to make sure that it has a chance to absorb water again and acclimatize itself as water drains from the starfish and whilst this is not a problem in the short term, placing it back causes it to initially sink and then to float up to near surface where the sun is too harsh for these creatures and kills them off. For this reason it is always a good idea to place a small stone on the starfish which keeps it weighted down for a long enough period to absorb water again at which point it is strong enough to move in a manner so as to remove the stone.
