Reno, Nevada

Mike and I are on another amazing road trip in Western United States and we had to take a tiny break because Mike needed some dentist time for his tooth. We were in Lake Tahoe then his Endodontist visit brought us close to Reno, so we had to check it out. The small, downtown area is really cute with a beautiful Riverwalk and casinos galore.

On the Riverwalk, I saw a High Water Mark sign so I had to check it out. On May 20, 2022, the City of Reno unveiled the “High Water Mark'' sign. The sign is for flood awareness and a lasting monument that will serve to educate the public for years to come,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said. “The sign will serve to commemorate the 25th and fifth anniversaries of the 1997 and 2017 floods in the City of Reno, and remind our community to never forget that these dangers exist along our Truckee River.”

"Believe" is one of a series of 12-foot-high rustic, block letter word sculptures made of 4-foot-thick steel. In all, the letters span 70 feet together. The "Believe" sculpture is one of several pieces of Burning Man art scattered around Reno. In all, the city is home to more than 170 pieces of public art, and the number is rising.

The artists Schomberg and Klimpton began their word sculpture series in 2010 with "Mom." The first sculpture was followed by "Love," and then "Dream" which debuted at Burning Man last year.

Each of the sculptures has a rusty hue and is imprinted with hundreds of cutouts of birds. When Klimpton's father died several years ago, she watched a flock of birds fly by her father's window simultaneously. The bird stamp serves as a reminder of her father.

Casino time! I asked for good luck from Mama and Daddy, and they were there with me. Woo Hoo! You see my Mom and Dad loved the casinos, especially the slot machines. They were both so very lucky at the casinos. I don't really gamble, but the last time I did in Oregon, I lost money because I forgot to ask Mom and Dad for luck.

This time I remembered and I walked out with $50. I know that's not a lot, but to me, it's awesome, I love it! Woo Hoo! Thanks Mom and Dad!

Club Cal Neva is one of the most historic casinos in Northern Nevada, having held its presence in Downtown Reno since April 2, 1962.
