My Journey To Pomifera

This is my story and how I came to Pomifera on my journey of life. I never have been one to take good care of my skin. I've always had one issue or another like rosacea, acne, blotchy skin, large pores, etc., but I always covered it up with makeup. No biggie. You see, I was brutally attacked, beaten and raped, when I was twenty-one years old. A man broke into my apartment, while I was sleeping, and thank God that I woke up, because otherwise, I may have not escaped death. I did everything I could to prevent it, kicking screaming, scratching, well you get it. It was horrific. But this wasn't the first time I nearly lost my life, this was the fourth major event that could have easily stolen my life. What a roller coaster as a young woman. So I've spent the last thirty years rebuilding myself from the ground up. Why in the world would I need a skin care routine when I could slap some makeup on and pretend everything is ok. Everything is ok now, well better than ok really, after years of research, trying everything to fix me, I'm now strong, funny, and smart. Even better than that, I wrote a book to help others and that fills my heart with joy.

I spent thirty years in the apartment industry and got to travel around the United States with my career. I absolutely loved my career as a property manager and trainer. During my career, I got married in Las Vegas with Elvis Presley singing to us, and six years later, I financed our divorce and walked away with the clothes on my back. I had endometriosis and had so many surgeries and procedures to help us try to have babies, but I couldn't and that had a lot to do with our marriage ending, but that wasn't all of it. It's never one thing when a marriage ends. I didn't even have a bed when I left, I got a small one bedroom apartment and an inflatable mattress, but I was so happy to be out of that relationship. My ex-husband is a good man and sweet, but we did not go together, at all. I'm not even sure how it all happened, but I do hope that he is happy. Together, we hurt each other and I felt like I was crying every day for six years. We were in marriage counseling for at least three years and it was one of my marriage counselors that advised me that I was the only one trying to make our marriage work and it would be best to part ways. So, I did. The first thing I did was to renew my passport. It's time for some fun. Look at that sweet picture of my Daddy walking me down the aisle. Love!!!

Georgia on my mind! One of the companies that I worked for relocated me from Mobile, Alabama to Atlanta, Georgia. I went kicking and screaming. You see, I lived in Naples, Florida for years and I really wanted to go back to South Florida but I was given the instructions to choose Phoenix, Arizona or Atlanta, Georgia as my new home. I needed to move away from Mobile. I was getting so tired of everyone asking what happened to our marriage. I just needed a new beginning. So to Atlanta I went and it was the very best thing that happened to me. I joined several social groups through Meet Up to meet people and I met some of the most amazing people that have become my sweet, wonderful friends.

I was having a great time, once I found out who I was again. I had a great career, a great apartment, a great car, I looked good and felt good. Wow this was, well GREAT! Hello Mike! I was actually on a date with a young man and we were dancing Salsa at a great club in Atlanta, and in walks Mike. He was tall, dark, and handsome, and I still remember what he was wearing, a preppy, blue striped, button down, shirt and blue jeans. YUM! My friend turns to me and said, "You're going to end up with him." I didn't think that at all, but I'm telling you that every time I went out salsa dancing. there he was. He asked me out and our first date was in Helen, Georgia for Oktoberfest. That will be thirteen years ago this October. We've been through a lot, kids going through teenage years, new jobs, lost jobs, losing friends, my parents, and family members, but we always worked through it.

Wonderlust! Mike and I loved to travel and did so as much as we could. We decided to build our life around traveling four years ago. We sold one vehicle and saved as much as we could. We would drop each other off at work, depending on who needed the car that day, and we made it work. Then, with planning, Mike got a new job as an IT consultant and I quit my job. We sold everything, bought the Beast, a little SUV that we loved, and we hit the road, with everything we owned in the back. We did road trips in all fifty states, twenty-seven National Parks , and had so much fun.

Aye Aye Captain. We fell in love with the idea of sailing on a catamaran cruise in Hawaii. We didn't know how to sail, or really anything about boating. We took a seven day, live aboard sailing class, and through the law of attraction, our Yinsanity came to us. We planned to practice for ten years, save money, and buy a catamaran when we were ready. We focused on our dream and it happened in seven months. Whoa! So, we literally learned how to sail on our own boat. Two full years of living on the boat, sailing up and down the East Coast, and the Bahamas has been amazing, a few stressful and scary moments, but mostly fun.

Black Beauty, AKA B.B.! Mike and decided to start road tripping abroad. We started doing a lot of research, and it turns out that we can't get an RV in a shipping container, but we can get a mini van in one. So, we bought a Dodge Caravan and outfitted it for us. We love it and tested it out with a month in Colorado, spending time in Aspen, Breckenridge, Telluride, Boulder, etc. So much fun! We are very much looking forward to our new experiences abroad.
