Fall in Lake Tahoe, California

Mike first surprised me in 2015 with a very quick visit to Lake Tahoe in 2015, for Valentines Day. It was such a quick visit that we didn't get to see much. This time we got two to see so much more.

Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the United States, behind Crater Lake, and the tenth deepest in the world. The lake is 22 miles in length and 12 miles wide with approximately 72 miles of shoreline. Its deepest measured depth is 1,645 feet, the average is 1,000 feet, and the bottom of the lake is 4,580 feet in elevation.

Over two million years ago, faulting of the oceanic and continental plates within the earth’s crust caused land blocks to drop. As the Tahoe block dropped, the adjacent Sierra Nevada and Carson Range blocks uplifted to form the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Sierra Nevada and Carson Range.

Giant glaciers scoured out the bottom of Lake Tahoe and deposited rock and sediment throughout the Basin. Mt. Pluto (at Northstar) erupted, creating a volcanic dam on Lake Tahoe’s northwest shore at the Truckee River. As the Basin filled with snowmelt, the dam eroded, forming modern-day Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River outlet.

Heavenly Village Lake Tahoe offers something for everyone to do, see, and enjoy. Stroll along the quaint cobblestone sidewalks and enjoy a unique community of shops, eateries, and entertainment in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. An 8-plex movie theater, live theatre, ice-skating, miniature golf, and more await your discovery. Experience it all in one place.

In 1927 the Cal-Neva Resort open in Crystal Bay. We visited a Cal-Neva casino in Reno, the oldest casino there as well. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino upend in 1965 and is the newest casino hotel in South Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe offers so many dining options all around the lake. One of our favorite is so Mexican so we checked out Margaritas and it was really yummy with outdoor dining and freshly made margaritas.
