June Lake Loop, California

Mike and I met some locals along our drive in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and they told us that we had to see June Lake Loop while we were on the area. June Lake Loop is beautiful and it is known as the “Switzerland of California,” June Lake is famous for its four sparkling lakes, nestled at the base of towering Sierra Nevada mountains.

The silt is created when rocks underneath the surface of the ice are grinding from the movement of the glacier. The rock flour is very light and stays suspended in the lake water for a long time. The sunlight that reflects off these particles is what gives the lakes their spectacular turquoise blue color.

Along the Loop are the natural lakes of June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and the man-made lake of Grant Lake.
