From Bandon or beaches further south, the island that draws the most attention is Face Rock, which received its name because the rocks resemble an uplifted face. The beautiful Ewauna, now Face Rock, forever looks to the sky in Bandon.
The native people’s origin story tells of an Indian girl who was lured out to sea farther and farther until she was turned to stone, along with a pack of kittens nearby.
She – called Ewauna by original Coquille is reportedly 56 million plus years old.
