Easy Bread for First Timers Like Me

I was a little nervous but I knew I needed to learn how to cook bread. I provisioned Yinsanity for a the month adventure in the Bahamas. The prices of everything in the Bahamas is expensive because it's a chain of islands and they have to have everything shopped in on the Mail Boat. The Mail Boat was once just that, mail but over the years it now brings all of the supplies that are ordered but it's still called the Mail Boat.

I found a recipe that did not call for eggs because well, I was out of eggs. So I found this recipe and it turned out terrific. They it, you'll love it.

Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet instant yeast

2 Tablespoons sugar (use 1 Tbsp. for less sweetness)

1 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk

2 Tablespoons vegetable oil or butter 1/2 cup additional flour to use for floured surface

Instructions: Combine flour, yeast, sugar & salt in a large mixing bowl.

Warm the milk and oil together n arrive or microwave Add milk/oil to flour mixture and mix. I have a manual mixer so that's what I used. Feel free to use modern appliances.

Mix until dough forms a soft mass.

Place dough on floured surface and knead 50 turns. Cover and let rest 10 minutes.

Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 -inch loaf pan. I don't have either and it still came out perfect.

Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm spot for about an hour, until it’s one inch taller than the pan.

Preheat oven to 375° F & bake for about 25 minutes.

Bread is done when the internal temperature is 190° F. I did what my mother always taught me, stick a butter knife in it and if it comes out clean, it's ready.
