Mike and i just feel in love with Florence, Oregon. It's is one of Oregon's most wonderful surprises. This coastal town has a charming and historic downtown, and some of the best regional cuisine.
Originally the Siuslaw estuary was the winter home for the Siuslaw tribe. French, Russian and Spanish explorers and traders moved through the area, and in 1909 a river port was established here.
The district thrived economically with industry from fishing, canning, lumber and rock quarries and eventually tourism.
We walked along the scenic boardwalk and harbor lined with historic buildings.
There are wonderful landmarks, public art, a beautiful bridge, and a lovely gazebo overlooking the river.
The day was absolutely beautiful, but when the fog came in, whoa, it was dense and difficult to see.
