Crab Cay, Bahamas, The Abandoned Resort

Sedona Resorts originally had a vision for The Resorts at Crab Cay. Crab Cay is a sizable and hilly island just across the harbor from George Town. They built a beautiful bridge from the mainland of Great Exuma. There are many leveled lots with spectacular views. There are several pristine beaches and a clubhouse overlooking turquoise waters. We started exploring this abandoned island and I wanted to know what happened to the development.

The Resorts at Crab Cay had an “eco-friendly” development underway, but the project ran into trouble and ground to a halt around the time of the financial crisis in the U.S. in 2007.

Currently Sanctuary Securities has partnered with CN Luxury Resorts and Pete Murphy of Murphy International, the owner of Crab Cay, to create an exclusive destination resort property. The development will be a limited access community with 24 hour security consisting of 354 residences. The island will host a world class hotel and marina, fine restaurants, a destination spa, sports and fitness facilities, shopping, water sports and much more. Phase II is being planned on the mainland of Great Exuma and will be designed to include a golf course. A dedicated staff will be carefully chosen to provide Crab Cay residents and guests with the highest level of service. The ultimate goal will be to establish Crab as the preeminent island destination in the entire Caribbean. CN Luxury Resorts is seeking a rarefied group of investors to become the founding members of the exclusive Crab Cay Resort.

Some of the cruisers built this beautiful swing next to the clubhouse. I really hope the new developers keep it.
