Aspen, Colorado and Silver Queen Gondola

Mike and I decided to visit the beautiful city of Aspen during the summer and it was so much fun. Aspen became a silver-mining town during the mining boom of the late 1800s. Following the devaluation of silver, Aspen experienced a cultural renaissance in the 1940s with the arrival of Walter and Elizabeth Paepcke. The Paepckes brought a vision for the community that focused on the mind, body and spirit, called “The Aspen Idea.” We took the Silver Queen Gondola up 2.5 miles from the heart of Aspen to the 11,000-foot-high summit of Aspen Mountain, known to the locals as Ajax. A sundeck and eatery was there so we enjoyed a cold beer while taking in the scenery of the Rocky Mountains.
